Language Arts
The goal of the Language Arts Curriculum is to develop effective writers. Students will write a variety of paragraphs, essays, research reports, lab reports and literature responses. The conventions of good writing are emphasized. Grammar instruction will focus on the parts of speech, capitalization and punctuation. Fifth graders will also learn spelling strategies using high-frequency words. Students are expected to apply these basic English and spelling skills correctly in all their written work. Speaking and listening skills are developed through class discussions and oral presentations.
